JUNIOR and LITTLE ROCK REPORT

The Little Rock League had a great season with lots of new curlers and tons of returning curlers. Curtis Mellor was the winning skip for the 2006-2007 season. His team included 5 other players, his brother Corey Mellor, Liam Branch, Jessie Ray DeRaaf, Peter Tehonchuk, and Richie Martin, as substitutions were made for various reason throughout the season. They received trophies provided by Dr. Don and Bobbie Whiteman, who also provided medallions for all participants. In December, Andrew Whiteman, Mitchell Whiteman, Ryan Watson, and Liam Murray competed in the Candy Cane spiel held in Cataraqui, and while they didn't win, they were given first pick at the prize table due to most sportsmanlike conduct. At the Zones in Belleville, they were nosed out for the 2nd spot by a team from Ottawa.

Trenton Curling Club hosted its second annual Reid's Dairy Moooooospiel! in March, and the generous supported of the title sponsor contributed to its huge success. Players came from two Kingston clubs, Napanee, Belleville and Trenton. The entire spiel is cow related and boasts the healthy benefits of milk, eating right and exercise. We had a cow toss game, cow puzzles and cow trivia. The organizer, Alison Davies, was a great hit when she arrived dressed in full Cow attire. The Calwell team from Quinte went home with the 1st place trophies. Lots of club members plus Terry Hope Watson from Best Quote Realty offered up additional prizes to acknowledge the parents and spectators for bringing the kids.

The Junior Club members had a difficult time committing to league times but honourable mention, and the Junior Award for Sportsmanship (also donated by Don and Bobbie Whiteman) goes out to Cody Harder and Jane Sopaz for their commitment to the sport and their help with the Little Rock League. League convenor, Alison Davies, also thanks all the volunteers: Craig Watson, Melanie Harder, Mike Whiteman, Don Phillips, Dan Watchorn and Mike Klubi. Their dedication and volunteer hours, plus the parents involvement, are what keep the junior section of the club successful.
