Junior Badminton (Under 19)

Bay of Quinte Badminton Club (BQBC)

Practice Details

The Bay of Quinte Badminton Club (BQBC) meets every Sunday at Centennial Secondary School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This time slot has been selected so that some of the more competitive players can stay longer and take part in the adult club that begins at 7:30 p.m.

Our Vision

The motivation for the BQBC is to introduce young athletes to the sport of badminton and to develop their skills so that they can compete at district tournaments. Our challenge is to develop athletes to be able to compete at the Provincial level and beyond.

Maturity Requirements

The BQBC accepts players from the age of 9 to under 19. We compete in tournaments that generally have age divisions of under 19, under 16, under 14 and under 12. Practices are two hours long. Practices do require completion of drills and a focus on a particular skill. In spite of our goal for skill improvement, we recognize the need for our players to simply have some fun and to enjoy the company of friends and peers

Parents are welcome to be spectators at practice. Sometimes they will be called upon to assist but generally their assistance will be with children of an age division other than the age of their own child.

Our Season and Tournaments

The season runs from early September to the middle of April. Children are encouraged to participate in several tournaments over the year and certainly the year-end district championships. Most tournaments are out of town such as Whitby or Peterborough or Kingston. Some higher level “elite” tournaments require travel to other southern Ontario cities. Car-pooling is encouraged. We do have an in-house club championship tournament at the end of the year as well. Parents are encouraged to attend to support their child’s efforts.

Cost and Expenses

The cost to join the Club for the 2007-2008 season is $50.00 per athlete.

The cost of tournaments ranges generally from $25.00 upwards to $40.00. The $25.00 OBA Player Card fee is paid by the Club when the player competes in his first tournament. Club t-shirts have been provided to all tournament participants this year.

Protective eye wear is mandatory for tournament participation and practices. Players use their own racquet(s) and appropriate badminton clothing is required (solid coloured shorts and predominately white shirt or t-shirt).

How to Join

To join the BQBC, simply attend one of our practices. A fee is not charged until the third practice.
